FINAL YEAR PROJECT PROPOSAL PREPARATION GUIDELINES

1.      TABLE OF CONTENTS

The contents and their sequence in a project Proposal should be as follows:

1.         Cover/Title Page

2.         Table of Contents

3.         List of Tables

4.         List of Figures

5.         List of Symbols/Abbreviations/Nomenclature

6.         Main Chapters

(a)   Introduction/Background

(b)   Study Area (if relevant)

(c)   Rationale

(d)   Objectives & Scope

(e)   Literature Review

(f)    Methodology and Limitation

7.         Working Schedule

8.         References

9.         Appendices

Tables and figures should be placed/inserted at appropriate/relevant places of the document.

2.   GENERAL GUIDELINE

3.1    Cover Page/Title Page: A specimen copy of the “Cover Page/Title Page” of project report is given in Appendix.

3.2    Table of Contents: The table of contents should list all the titles/contents of the report. The “Title Page” pages should not be included in the “Table of Contents”. Page numbers in “Roman Letters” should be displayed at the bottom of each page. One and a half spacing should be used for typing the project report. A specimen copy of the “Table of Contents” of project report is given in Appendix.

3.3    List of Tables: One and half spacing should be used for typing the proposal under this heading.

3.4    List of Figures: One and half line spacing should be used for typing the proposal under this heading.

3.5    List of symbols, abbreviations and nomenclatures: One and half line spacing should be used for typing the report under this heading. National and international standard symbols & abbreviations should be defined in this section. The page numbers must be displayed in “Roman Letters” at the bottom-center of each page for the sections 3.2 to 3.8.

3.6    Chapters: This section includes the following items:

3.6.1    Introduction/Background (Intoriduction of about the project)

3.6.2    Study area (location & other information about the project if any)

3.6.3    Rational (why the project work is important/relevant & necessary)

3.6.4    Objectives & Scope (mention the primary and secondary objective of the project)

3.6.5    Literature review (Review of relevant and necessary publications closely related to the project work. The literatures must be cited at the relevant points in the section appropriately and, all of them should be listed in “Reference” section.

3.6.6    Methodology and limitations (Write methods and software (if used) to collect primary/secondary data required for the project design and methodologies. If there are difficulty/limitation to get enough information as you expected than it needs to be explained).

3.6.7    Make the Bar chart of the propsoed activites required for project work depicting the time span for each activity. (See sample below)

3.6.9    References: The listing of references should be typed 4 spaces below the heading “REFERENCES” in alphabetical order in single spacing left –justified. The reference material should be listed in the alphabetical order of the first author. The name of the author/authors should be immediately followed by the year and other details. In case of website the date of visiting the sites should be mentioned along with the URL.

            A typical illustrative list given below relates to the citation examples quoted above.

4.   TYPING INSTRUCTIONS

The impression on the typed copies should be black in color. One and a half spacing should be used for typing the general text. The general text shall be typed in the font style “Times New Roman” and font size must be 12.

 

5.   NUMBER OF COPIES TO BE SUBMITTED

Students should submit required copies to the concerned department before the specified date. The Head of the Department should send one copy to the University, one copy to the library, each one copy to the internal supervisor and external examiner. Apart from four copies submitted to the department, every group members should have one copy each for their future reference.

 

6.   SIZE OF PROJECT PROPOSAL

The size of project proposal should be maximum of 40 pages.
